The Era We Live In or the Error of our Ways?

http://youtu.be/-ouOwpYQqic

I believe we need to be intentional about teaching our future the importance of balance and the lifelong implications of our use of technologies, especially social media.

"Mom, when do I get my phone?", "Can we watch another show?", "Can I play a game on the computer?",  "But I have research to do, I need your computer!"....the examples are endless when thinking about how "plugged in" our lives have become.  Did you know that according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should be limited to NO more than
2 hours a day?!  Studies show that children who have more exposure than this have higher instances of challenges such as obesity, sleep disorders, behavior and academic problems, and many more.  While technology has offered us much to be thankful for, the age old adage comes to mind, "too much of a good thing is bad".  How do we find balance?  How do we get our kids to use technology with care?  Studies have shown that the strongest implication for forming habits, whether good or bad is....are you ready...parental habits...ouch!  No amount of talking or limit setting is going to work if you yourself are plugged in 24/7. Whether your on the phone, checking email, facebook, twitter, or just have the T.V. on for background noise...your habits are impacting those around you.  So, with that food for thought to chew on for a bit, I need to get off of here and set a better example!
